Thota Vaikuntam

Thota Vaikuntam, born in 1942 in Telangana, is a celebrated Indian painter renowned for his vibrant depictions of rural life and folk culture from the Telangana region. After completing his studies at the College of Fine Arts in Hyderabad, Vaikuntam developed a distinctive style that beautifully captures the spirit and traditions of village life through bold colors, simplified forms, and expressive figures. His work is celebrated for its lyrical portrayal of the everyday lives, attire, and rituals of Telangana’s people, particularly the women, who often appear as central figures in his compositions.


Vaikuntam’s paintings are characterized by their striking use of color, minimalistic yet powerful brushwork, and a unique blend of realism and stylization.
