Marcio Fernandes

Marcio Menino Fernandes is a contemporary Indian artist whose practice is rooted in the landscapes, people, and cultural memory of Goa. Born and raised in Merces, North Goa, his work draws from everyday life, village streets, domestic spaces, roadside shrines, and quiet moments of contemplation, capturing experiences shaped by light, faith, and familiarity. Living and working between Goa and London, Fernandes reflects on themes of belonging, nostalgia, human relationships, and spirituality, often informed by distance from home.

Working primarily in acrylics, Fernandes employs a figurative language that balances observation with emotional depth. His paintings transform ordinary scenes into vessels for memory and reflection, encompassing figurative compositions, still life, and landscapes. Alongside his studio practice, he has created murals and ceramic-based works, including terracotta and large-scale wall paintings, and continues to expand his practice into printmaking and mixed media.

Fernandes holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) from the Goa College of Art, where he graduated with distinction, and is currently completing his Master of Fine Art (MFA) at the City & Guilds of London Art School, London. His research explores everyday encounters, spirituality, and the human condition through figurative painting.

His solo exhibition Stories of Goa (2025) was held at Sadhana Dell’Arte, Merces, Goa, and he has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Chelsea Art Society Summer Show (2024), Inside Job Staff Biennale at Tate Modern, London (2024), and Erotic Art London (2025). Fernandes has received multiple awards, including the Late Ravoji V. Gaunekar Award (2020, Goa) and the Alison Jackson Award for Photography (2022, Saatchi Art Gallery, London).
